Brazilian tennis player João Fonseca will not compete in this year’s Bitpanda Hamburg Open. After arriving in Hamburg, the 19-year-old experienced slight discomfort in his right wrist. Together with his team, he decided to withdraw from the ATP 500 tournament as a precaution.
“I would like to thank the tournament for all the support and hospitality since I got here,” Fonseca said.
In the first round, Fonseca was scheduled to face German player Yannick Hanfmann. Due to the withdrawal, Hanfmann advances to the second round by walkover.
The Bitpanda Hamburg Open started today and will run until May 23 at Hamburg’s Rothenbaum tennis complex.
